In The House

On Thursday, November 9, MLA Adam Olsen stood up during question period in the "B.C." Legislature and spoke about Anna's important work. Check out this jaw-dropping name-drop in the legislature!

I've edited this video so it cuts right to the juicy part.

The Unrelenting Anna McKenzie

I cried when I first saw this video, because it gave me hope. Might we be able to improve things for Indigenous mothers in this province? Might we be responsible for an Indigenous mother getting better access to her newborn?

This is why we do the work we do – to serve our community, especially Indigenous women, the most disrespected, targeted demographic in "Canada."

Anna's work is meaningful and powerful. I'm so proud to be working with "the unrelenting IndigiNews reporter Anna McKenzie."

Aunties at the Awards

IndigiNews is an almost totally remote newsroom, so it's always  special to be able to see each other in person. This past Tuesday, all three IndigiNews Aunties attended the Webster Awards in "Vancouver" together.

Anna and I were both finalists in our categories – me for Commentator of the Year and Anna for Excellence in Community Reporting, along with Shalu Mehta from The Discourse, our sister outlet. Here we are at the Websters, from L to R – Cara McKenna, Anna McKenzie, Shalu Mehta and me, Eden Fineday.

Anna and Shalu won!! I did not win my category, and that's okay. It really was a thrill just to be nominated.

Quoted in the Washington Post👀

I was, however, mentioned in the Washington Post! Just yesterday, my column on Buffy St. Marie was quoted.

It's exciting to think of folks in other countries seeing IndigiNews' name in print. I've always believed that the perspectives we share in IndigiNews stories would be of interest to folks outside of "Canada." It's extra rewarding to think of them hearing about us in such a prestigious American publication:

Our dream is to reach a much wider audience, one that transcends borders and cultures. We want to see Indigenous worldviews brought to mainstream consciousness.

On that note, hiy hiy for your readership. I'm so grateful for the community we're building together.

Mwêstas,

Aunty Eden
