tanîsi cuzzins,
Today is ‘National Indigenous Peoples Day,’ a day meant to “recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada.”
It’s a little ironic: a colonial government declaring a single day to recognize the people who have been on this land for hundreds of generations before them, but I'll take the opportunity to celebrate my community any chance I get. Due to the love of our ancestors, we're still here.
At IndigiNews, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples every single day.

Support Indigenous storytelling
|
We do this work while recognizing the Indigenous news leaders that have come before us, like APTN, who helped incubate us along with Discourse Community Publishing, and Windspeaker, who has been covering Indigenous news for over four decades.
We are also so grateful to our cuzzins (readers) that have shared our stories and supported us financially.
IndigiNews, like all new organizations, was an experiment. The fact that you’re still reading our stories, four years later, means we’re on the right track. You’re proving that media that treats Indigenous Peoples with the compassion and respect everyone deserves is not only necessary, but desired — and not just by our kin!
Today, we’re celebrating this milestone and everyone who has helped make this possible. We’re also launching our bi-annual fundraising campaign to help us continue telling Indigenous stories.
Will you help us raise $20,000 so we can continue this crucial work?
